More than 1 million baby slings recalled in the US
Americans never do things by half so their product recalls make for good headlines but the disturbing thing is that I suspect the 1 million slings recalled in the US yesterday (and 15,000 in Canada) is just the tip of the iceberg.
Although these Infantino slings are not available in Australia they give us a good idea about the style of sling Aussie parents should be avoiding.
It doesn't take a genius to see that these elasticised padded sides could restrict air flow to an infant. You can excuse an inexperienced parent but the "expertise" of a major nursery brand?
Also the way these slings are worn creates a dip in the middle which results in the baby curling up with their chin on their chest. It's much safer to wear your baby long and flat across your body with their head completely clear.
For further information on recent sling use warnings and safe ways to wear your baby see our earlier story, US regulatory body issues warning on the use of baby slings.

This is sold in Australia..i have one! I actually purchased it over the other slings as it has mesh panels on the side near the babies head.
I always wore it supporting the baby as yes he did not lay well in it.
I will be calling the store where i purchased it. Thanks for this article.
Hi Fiona, yes I came across it the other and was very surprised. In addition to the suffocation risk a number of the clips have broken resulting in babies falling out. Very very nasty.

You should be able to get a full refund and get something safer. There are many great options available in Australia.
