Design and Features
bottomsup is a range of natural organic baby products. It includes a body wash, 'shampishioner', 'moistsurpriser' and a balmy bottom butter.
Different products come in different sizes: body wash and shampoo in 125 and 250 ml bottles; moisturiser in a 125 ml bottle; and bottom butter in a 100 ml tub. You can also buy a gift pack that contains the full set.
Performance and Drawbacks
bottomsup products are made from 100% natural ingredients of which the majority are certified organic. On average they contain 75% organic ingredients; the bottom butter contains 99%. Ingredients include shea butter, aloe vera, lavender, chamomile, peach, passionflower & lilypilly extracts, jojoba & avocado oil and beeswax. All of these ingredients are known for their skin-loving and soothing qualities.
Just as notable are the ingredients not contained in bottomsup products. While many products on the market use, among others: synthetic fragrances (often the cause of skin irritation), petrochemicals and formaldehyde (it’s in more skin care products that you could ever imagine), bottomsup products steer well clear of these.
Because they don't contain synthetic fragrances they smell of their natural ingredients. The body wash and shampoo both smell sweetly of peach and mandarin oil with a hint of lavender.
bottomsup like to say 'a little blob goes a long way' and this is certainly true. I have used the smallest squirt of body wash and shampoo and it’s still been more than required. This is because bottomsup doesn’t bulk up their products with cheap fillers. On average you will get 22 baths or 32 hair washes from the small 125 ml bottles.
Here's our impression on each product.
Baby body wash: didn't foam up too much and smelt like you'd like to eat it for dessert.
Shampishioner: foamed up well but not excessively; resulted in squeaky clean hair.
Moistsurpriser: is quickly absorbed into the skin, leaves no residue or overpowering smell; just a hint of lavender.
Bottom Butter: beeswax base makes it more like an ointment than cream; smoothes over a sore bottom easily (unlike those thick Zinc creams), eliminating the ouch factor. Good results.
Conclusion
There is nothing wrong in using nothing on your baby's skin other than a bit of olive oil and bum cream.
However, if you do want to use baby products, and many parents do, don't get sucked into the false economy of supermarket brands, you may get twice as much for the same price but you're going to use twice as much. Not to mention that natural is just nicer (and healthier).
You can buy bottomsup at your local baby shop or directly from bottomsup. Remember, you get twice the amount in a larger bottle and it only costs $5.00 extra.
