Design and Features
Bugs in a Blanket is written and illustrated by Beatrice Alemagna and comes in an A5 hardcover format with card pages.
It’s best suited to a 2 to 5 year old audience; however, the textured and simpler illustrations will appeal to all ages.
Performance and Drawbacks
It’s little fat bug’s birthday and he’s invited all the bugs in the blanket to celebrate together. But the bugs have never met each other before, how are they going to get on when they are all so different?
Bugs in a Blanket is all about noticing difference and then getting on with the fun stuff. I love they way the little bugs resolve their differences; by having a dance, it’s such a toddler thing.
The story is well written in a way toddlers can relate to. It effectively explains a complex concept to children in a fun way, but most importantly in a way that they can relate to.
The illustrations in Bugs in a Blanket are lovely. The little textile and felted bugs are very cute and quite expressive. The textile collage style gives them a textured, almost 3-D look.
Conclusion
Bugs in a Blanket is a great fun story with a message in it that all toddlers need to learn if they are going create happy and healthy friendships in the playground and beyond.
Bugs in a Blanket is not widely available. You might have to check your local independent bookstore or look online for it.
