Design and Features
Edison Chopstick are a set of plastic chopsticks which have a connector at the top. They have three rings so you can place your child's thumb and fingers in the correct position.
They are made from silicon, are available for left and right handed eaters and feature little pads at the end of the chopsticks to allow your child to get a better grip on their dinner. They are suitable for children up to 5 years.
They come in a variety of child friendly designs including a range of Thomas the Tank Engine designs and some more traditional Asian animated character designs. You can also get a child's chopstick and spoon set with a case which is great for eating out.
Performance and Drawbacks
Edison Chopsticks are very cute and work on a pretty simple basis. The rings ensure your child's thumb and fingers are positioned in the right place so it's easy for them to move to regular chopsticks as they grow older.
Our 2.5 our little toddler tester loves his chopsticks but hasn't really cottoned on to using the rings for finger placement yet. At the moment he uses both hands to hold the sticks and scoop the food and one hand to bring the food to his mouth. He's pretty persistent using them and will get down his whole dinner. We'll let you know how he progresses as he gets more experience and dexterity.
Our Edison Chopsticks only get used occasionally, if you ate with chopsticks more regularly I'd expect that your child would cotton onto using them much quicker.
Conclusion
Kids love Edison Chopsticks and they cost less than many knife and forks sets so are well worth a try, even if just for fun.
If you eat Asian food regularly they will assist your child to use chopsticks when it otherwise might have been too tricky.
Availability is limited, you can find them in some Asian grocery stores and online. The Training Chopsticks website carries the whole range.
