Design and Features
Fever Reliever Cooling Gel Strips are a similar design to sticky-plasters. They have a paper cover and contain a strip of blue gel underneath which sits on top of your skin.
They come in packs of 6, are suitable for over 1s and last for 10 hours each.
The cooling gel is primarily made of water and contains menthol which is the ingredient which creates the cooling effect. There are no medicinal ingredients in Fever Reliever and they can be used by themselves or in conjunction with appropriate pain relievers.
Fever Reliever Cooling Strips are registered with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. They will last in your medicine cabinet for about 2 years (check the expiry date).
Performance and Drawbacks
Fever Reliever Cooling Gel Strips work to relieve fever, toothaches, headaches and sore muscles by drawing away heat from your child's forehead. You don't need to put them in the fridge or freezer, just take them out of the pack and apply.
Overseas cooling gel strips are widely available and used to provide relief to all sorts aliments including migraines and the symptoms of menopause so I thought I'd give these a go myself. I've been loitering around with one on for over an hour and I'm surprised at how cool they feel.
They don't contain any ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction, however, KidsColdPacks do not recommend their cooling strips for children with eczema. Also they don't have glue like sticky plasters so your children won't have any raised red reaction to them.
Fever Reliever Cooling Gel Strips should only be used under the supervision of a parent. They can be easily removed by a fussy toddler and you wouldn’t want your child to undertake a taste test on them even though they don't contain any toxic ingredients.
Of course if you are concerned about your child's health you should contact your doctor immediately.
Conclusion
Anything that provides relief to a child who is unwell or in pain is worth its weight in gold, especially something so easy to use. For under $10.00 for a pack of 6 it’s worth having a couple of packs in the house just in case.
Of course mum and dad can use them too; having kids is a headache hazard!
Fever Reliever Cooling Gel Strips are available directly from KidsColdPacks online or from your local chemist.
