Design and Features

Boo! These IKEA Spokas are friendly ghosts. The night light is covered in a ghostly silicone cover and comes with a transformer so you can charge it up for a good night of haunting.

Spoka come in two designs, a tall blue & white one or a plump red & white one. They are suitable for children from 3 onwards but you could use them earlier if you place them out of reach.

Performance and Drawbacks

IKEA Spoka night lights are well designed. The silicon cover encloses the whole night light which means there's nowhere inappropriate for little fingers to explore and no little switches to break.

You turn the night light on by pressing the head, the first press turns a kaleidoscope light on, the second press turns a single colour light on, a third press turns your Spoka off.

The adapter goes into the back, the silicone has a little cross hatch at the back that your push the adapter into. When you take the adapter out the cross-hatch closes up.

You need to charge your Spoka up for about 14 hours for the first use. Once charged this light will last up to 5 hours during the night which is about 5 hours too few if your child sleeps from 7pm to 7am.

In addition to toddlers, Spoka are great for older children who need to get up in the night to go to the toilet. Spoka emits just the right amount of light to light the way.

The silicone cover is nice and soft but also quite strong. It's unlikely your toddler will tear or break it. The cover also acts as a shock absorber so if Spoka accidentally gets dropped he's got a little padding to break his fall.

Spokas look really cute displayed at a pair. They are white so I'm wondering if they will get grubby over time. We'll ask our little toddler tester to report back on that one.

Conclusion

Spoka are classic IKEA, cheap, cheerful & useful. They are just another reason why parents should never overlook IKEA as a great place to shop for babies & kids gear.
