Design and Features

The Jolly Jumper is basically bungee for babies. There is a large clamp which attaches to the top of your door frame, a long spring for bounce and a pouch to suspend your baby in.

In addition to the jumper you can buy a stand and a mat that you put under your baby’s feet that plays music when they hit it.

Performance and Drawbacks

There is no doubt that the Jolly Jumper allows your baby to bounce up and down all day long if they wish, however, there are so many ways a baby can get hurt using a Jolly Jumper that it doesn’t bear thinking about. There are no safety standards for these types of toys and some hospitals actively recommend parents avoid them. At the very least close parental supervision is required when in use.

Apart from the health concerns some babies quite dislike them and often they don’t get enough use to warrant the purchase price.

Conclusion

As my brother wisely says ‘it’s all fun until someone gets hurt’. I can’t think of a better way to describe the Jolly Jumper.

If you really really want your baby to bounce please read the safety tips provided by Westmead Children’s hospital.
