Design and Features
Little Billies charts come in 2 styles; reward or routine. They each come with a single set of reward or activity magnets tailored to the developmental stage of your child. You can upgrade to more complex reward & routine magnets as your child grows.
They also come with a useful guide on using the magnet rewards most effectively.
Little Billies charts come in a range of fun kids designs with recent new designs added for boys and girls including dinosaurs, a rocket, butterflies and, my favourite, the cute woodland reward chart. The magnets meet the size requirements of the Toy Association Guidelines so don't pose a chocking hazard to smaller children.
Performance and Drawbacks
Little Billies charts make a reward and/or routine schedule easy to set up. You need to find a magnetic surface at your child's height and in a place they can easily refer to.
The reward chart can be used from toddler to toilet training then to 5+. The routine chart can be used for a young toddler up until school age. From school age a day & night chart is available to guide your child through the activities of their school day.
The reward charts have 10 spaces to recongnise good behaviour including lovely helping, nice talking, good attitude, patience, good listening and so on. The idea being that when children receive a lot of praise about their good behaviour and can physically see it being acknowledged they will strive to develop that good behaviour further.
Once a child has filled their chart with 10 good behaviours they receive a reward which can be as simple as an extra book before bed, a trip to the pool, extra time in the park or a milkshake in the local cafe. Whatever reward works for your family.
The routine charts are useful tools to move your toddler or child from one activity to the next and also help them understand the passage of time. With the charts, you can show them how "if we go shopping now then we will be able to go to the park later", or that "after bath time we get dressed then have books before bed".
For older children the routine charts are a visual reference for them to help them organise themselves in the morning before school and in the evening.
Being magnetic you can use your Little Billies charts over and over again and if you have several children you can have one that suits each child's age and activities. You do need a magnetic surface that is accessible to your child, Little Billies also have a magnetic whiteboard option that you can purchase to hang on the wall if need be or most parents pop theirs on the fridge.
Also you've now got a whole pile of little magnets to store. Find yourself a little pouch you can pop in a nearby drawer or Little Billies have a magnet storage option available.
The success of Little Billies charts rests with parents. You really need to make a commitment to using the charts consistently to get the long term benefit from them.
The proof is in the pudding with reward & routine products. We are sending a rewards chart off to a little Best Buys tester who is staring school this year. We'll let you know how he and his family go implementing and using it.
Conclusion
Children respond well to positive recognition and it goes a long way to encouraging good behaviour and minimising undesirable behaviour. Little Billies reward charts are designed to make that positive recognition a consistent and effective parenting tool.
In addition having a visual routine allows children to be independent and learn self sufficiency as they grow towards school age.
Little Billies Reward & Routine charts can be ordered from selected online children's stores including Bonito Baby or directly from Little Billies.
