Design and Features
The Lonesome Puppy is written and illustrated by Yoshitomo Nara. It's available in a large square hardcover.
It is best suited to the 2 to 5 year old set.
Performance and Drawbacks
Despite The Lonesome Puppy being more about the illustrations (some pages are illustrative only) I still like the story. It's a bit of a life lesson. Girl meets puppy, puppy and girl become friends, friendship has its ups and downs but it's still good.
The illustrations are fun and very expressive, typical of Yoshitomo Nara's childhood inspired art. Some of the illustrations later in the book don't actually have any correlation with the story line they are just there for fun. And what dog giving the peace sign while flying in a wingless plane isn't fun?
Conclusion
You might find The Lonesome Puppy a little outside the box, however, that's what really inspires kids to think and create.
It's worth looking after your copy of The Lonesome Puppy, it's likely to be a book that might be precious for future generations.
You may have difficultly finding the Lonesome Puppy in shops in Australia, however, you can find it on the internet. If you are a regular market-goer and We Heart Books have a stall, you may find it there.
