Design

The Day Tripper is one of the basic Maclaren models, with just the seat, frame and hood which is what you would expect from a very lightweight pram. The seat is made from durable and fade resistant material and the chassis is lightweight brushed aluminum. As with all umbrella style prams it is small and nifty.

It comes in a basic charcoal/black colourway. The frame is light but sturdy and the components are not as well made or designed as some of the more swanky Maclaren prams.

Features

The pram has basic features including comfortable padded handles, washable fabric, a two level reclining seat and a shoulder strap for carrying.

It has a small basket, however, there is one other pocket which is useful. The hood does not extend far and if you spend a lot of time outdoors it may be wise to invest in a sun shade. The rain cover is also a little on the skimpy side.

The seat is basic with not a lot of padding and the recline mechanism is one of those fiddly strap systems.

Performance

The Day Tripper rates well for manageability. The wheels are a little on the mean side but they do swivel and are lockable which help it handle more difficult surfaces. You can push this pram with one hand if needed.

The fold has to be one of the best on the market. A true one handed fold that takes five seconds. The folded pram is small and will fit into the boot of a small car.

Drawbacks

The biggest complaint about the Day Tripper is that it is not well suited to infants. Many parents would only recommend it for babies that are at least six months old. Mainly due to the lack of padding, non-extendable footrest and limited recline of the seat.

Many parents have also complained about the difficulty using the brakes which seem to be a common problem with some of the lower end Maclaren models.

You should also be cautious that this pram can tip when empty.

Conclusion

The popularity of Maclaren prams speaks for itself. Look around on the street and you will see them everywhere.

The Day Tripper is a great choice for older babies traveling or catching public transport.

Maclaren prams are often on special at the larger department stores and baby shops.
