Design and Features
Madii & Dyl pillows are made from a core of natural, organic, latex. They come with two zippered covers, a polyester breathable pillow protector and a thicker cotton pillow cover.
The latex core is perforated for air circulation and to keep the pillows cool and comfortable. They come in a wave form to best support smaller sized heads, necks and spines.
Madii & Dyl pillows come in three sizes, Sooki Babe for supervised head support for babies, Teenii Tot for first time pillow users and Mini Me for children from 4 years. We are covering the Teenii Tot & Mini Me sizes in this review.
Performance and Drawbacks
Madii & Dyl pillows are lovely and soft, but not too soft. The latex core in conjunction with the wave design provides great support for a side sleeping child. Because they are made from organic latex there's no nasty chemicals in Madii & Dyl pillows, this is particularly important for a product that's going to be so frequently used.
One thing that's particularly nice about Madii & Dyl pillows is they have no 'new product' smell when you take them out of the packet.
The wave design supports your child's head, neck and spine and the Mini Me size has a different sized wave on each side so the pillow grows with your child. The latex core is hypo allergenic and dust and mite free so it's a great option for children with asthma or allergies.
One of the great things about Madii & Dyl pillows is that they are washable. You can rinse them down and dry them flat, out of the sun. The protector & cover are machine washable.
Madii & Dyl pillows are great quality and will last for 5 years +, even after being snuggled, dibbled on and washed. We sent our tester pillow off to a toddler tester who regularly gets head sweats during the night. In the past, his pillow has started to smell after a month and needs to be replaced every 3 months. He's had his Maddi & Dyl pillow for 8 weeks now and it doesn't smell nor has needed to be washed yet. As our tester mum pointed out, summer will be the test so we'll update this review then.
Madii & Dyl pillows could do with a child proof zip on the inside pillow cover. Although I wouldn't unzip it and pick apart the latex core, it doesn't mean a curious toddler wouldn't. Not only would that destroy the pillow but small bits of latex could pose a choking hazard.
Madii & Dyl pillows are smaller than a standard pillow (duh!, they're for kids) so they do swim in a standard pillow case.
Conclusion
You can pop down to your local shopping centre and pick your child up a budget polyester filled pillow for $15, in 6 months it will be yucky & lumpy and you'll be buying another. Or you can invest $49 or $59 in a quality, ergonomically designed Madii & Dyl pillow that will last for 5 years +. It's not hard to figure out which is the best buy.
If Madii & Dyl made adult sized pillows I'd buy one for myself.
Madii & Dyl pillows are not widely available. It's best to buy them directly from Madii & Dyl or find an online stockist.
