Design and Features
The Mije Toilet Seat Reducer has a hard plastic rim with handles and a soft PVC covered inner rim for comfort.
It features soft rubber pads on the bottom to prevent wear and slipping on your toilet seat. An inner plastic rim prevents the reducer sliding off.
Performance and Drawbacks
The Mije Toilet Seat Reducer is pretty easy to use. You pop it onto the adult sized toilet seat, give it a quick push to make sure it's secure and pop your toddler on it.
The Reducer is well made for its purpose. The plastic rim at the back is raised so your child can't slip off the back and there's a little bump at the front to account for wandering wee and which will prevent your child sliding off the front.
The handles on the side are really useful. For smaller toddlers it gives them something to grip onto, for older toddlers they can use the handles to put the seat on the toilet themselves and then use them to help them get on the toilet (with the help of a step). If you allow your toddler to use it independently it's best to supervise them.
The seat padding is comfy so your child is happy to sit and be patient and it's also high enough so the circulation doesn't get cut off in your child's legs.
To solve the storage problem you can get yourself a large wall hook and hang the Toilet Seat Reducer on the wall next to your toilet making it easily accessible to you and your toddler.
Of course anything you use on the toilet needs to be cleaned regularly and accidents may happen. Mind you, a potty requires much more cleaning.
Talking potties, the Mije Toilet Seat Reducer is not as readily accessible as a potty. You'll be lifting your child and assisting them more if you use the Reducer. However, you don't have to clean up after.
What our testers said
Our toddler tester was immediately attracted to the fun ladybug & frog print and was excited to be using the Toilet Seat Reducer.
He found the seat comfortable and continues to be happy to have a sit & read while waiting for 'action'. He often uses the handles to keep himself stable but is getting more confident.
Surprisingly, the Toilet Seat Reducer has avoided getting dirty and has just needed a wipe down every now and then to keep it clean.
Because the seat makes the toilet even higher and our little tester is perched up there, it makes it harder for him to climb up from his step. If he tries to get on by himself the seat can move around a little so he needs a little help. As he gets bigger it should become easier for him.
Finally, there is no doubt that the Reducer has made toilet time less scary for our toddler tester and easier for his mum.
Conclusion
It really depends on your child whether they prefer a potty, the Mije Toilet Seat Reducer or if they want to move from one to the other. However, if you are a parent, the bit of extra effort you need to assist a younger toddler definitely pays off when it comes to the cleaning factor.
Also the Mije Toilet Seat Reducer is competitively priced in comparison to your average good quality potty.
