Introduction
It's been a while since I've reviewed a nappy disposal system so I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the Munchin Nappy Disposal System is to use.
It is basically a large lidded bin with a smartly designed nappy bagging system. It's point of difference in the market is its use of baking soda to neutralise the smell.
In use
The Munchkin Nappy Disposal System is easy to set up. It comes assembled and all you need to do is fill up the baking soda dispenser and it's ready to go. You do need to supply your own baking soda so make sure its on your shopping list if you don't have it in the cupboard.
It's very easy & convenient to use, just fill it with nappies and once its full you just fold the outer ring on the top of the refill bag, push it through the top opening and remove the bag via the door on the side. All your stinky nappies are sealed in the bag ready for the bin.
Each refill will take up to 25 newborn nappies so that's about 4 to 5 days use. Refills cost about $22 for a pack of 10 so just over $2 each.
The Munchkin Nappy Disposal does a good job of keeping the stink in. The top lid is very heavy and you don't get a whiff with the lid closed. As your nappy bin gets fuller sometimes you get a little smell leaking out when you push a soiled nappy in. It's a negligible smell which regularly changing the refill bag will prevent. Also flushing solid waste down the toilet is not only good sanitary practice but will also keep your disposal system 'fresh'.
Consider
One thing you need to be cautious about is that the side door is not childproof. An inquisitive toddler could open it and tear the inner bag leaving you with quite a mess on your hands.
Of course the plastic bag refills add to the already considerable landfill waste that disposable nappies create. I don't think, though, that they add anymore than a standard plastic garbage bag or single use nappy disposal bag would.
Overall
Overall I think the Munchkin Nappy Disposal System is a good quality product that's simple to use. You can buy them online or at your local baby store.
