Review

The phil&teds travel cot, aptly named 'traveller', is another well designed bit of phil&teds baby gear.

Design

This portable travel cot is basically a little lightweight tent, just like mum and dad's big one but scaled down for indoor and outdoor use.

Features

The traveller features both a top and side zippered opening for easy access to your baby, a self inflating mattress, a lightweight aluminium frame, 4 tent pegs for outdoor use, a carry bag and rubber feat that don't scratch Nanna's hardwood floors.

Performance

The traveller is great because you can erect it anywhere, it is a bit fiddly to set up but once it's done it's small and light enough to move around easily so you can just put it out of the way. The little rubber feet keep it stable to keep in more adventurous babies.

It has a nice comfy mattress for your baby and lots of mesh panels to ensure ventilation. If you are outdoors you can peg the traveller into the ground for stability and enclose the whole cot to keep out the bugs. Indoors you can roll down the top and side if your baby does not like being enclosed.

Folded, the traveller is so easy to carry and pack; you can take it anywhere including packing it in your suitcase for interstate and overseas trips.

Drawbacks

The traveller does take some time and a few steps to assemble and disassemble. If you are moving around a lot this can be annoying.

To minimise the risk of SIDS the mattress is zipped into a pouch under the cot. This means that you can't use a normal sheet in it. However, the material can be cleaned so a regular wash combined with a sleeping bag should do the trick.

Conclusion

I'm a big fan of the traveller having used it on an extensive overseas trip and lots of little trips out and about. It's great to have one cot that you can take anywhere and know your baby will sleep in it.

Also when I had a problem with my first cot, phil&teds replaced it quick smart, no problems, so thumbs up to phil&teds for great customer service.

You should always be aware of the SIDS risks when your baby is using a new style of cot. Find more information on the SIDS and Kids website.
