The Strider is Steelcraft's higher priced, European style pram. It comes in a 3 wheel or 4 wheel option.
Design
The Strider looks and feels like a top of the range European pram. It's aluminium frame, floating style seat and brightly coloured fabrics are typical of types of Dutch designs we see in the Bugaboo and Quinny ranges.
The pram itself is solid and well made but one of the biggest drawbacks of the Strider is its cheaper and more basic components.
Features
The features of this moderately priced pram are generous and make it stand out as a good value buy. It has rear and forward facing seat positions, 3 position recline, a five point safety harness and an adjustable handlebar.
The features that potentially make it a better performer than a pram like the Bugaboo Cameleon are the large under seat basket, the ability to use the seat for a newborn or have the option of a bassinet, the solid wheels (no punctures), and the lighter weight at 11.7kg complete.
As mentioned above, the basket is large but does have a bar above the middle of it which can limit the size of objects you may want to put in it. The hood is long and will completely cover your baby when they are sitting upright. It also has a peek-a-boo window.
Performance
As you would expect with this design, manoeuvrability is great. It has suspension and is made for off-road rides, the two front wheels are lockable so it is easier to manage on more difficult surfaces. Its comfortable steering makes it possible to push it with one hand when needed.
The fold is a single step and the fold size is large so you should check that it will fit into your boot prior to purchase.
Drawbacks
Overall parents seem to love their Striders.
There are complaints about the width of the back wheel base, it is very wide, and the occasional complaint about uneven wear on the wheels.
Conclusion
The Strider is a great pram at a great price. If you're in the market for this style of pram the Strider should be one of your top choices.
It also comes in a three wheel option and a new model has just been released allowing for a toddler seat. Beware; this model has an even wider back wheel base!
