The Stokke Sleepi cot is the basis of an entire sleep system, from the mini bassinet through to a children's bed, (although some of the configurations require the purchase of additional parts).
Design
Where the manufacturers would have us believe the oval shaped Stokke Sleepi creates the optimum sleeping conditions for your baby, in reality there is no guarantee of an undisturbed night! I bought this cot simply because I loved the look.
The Stokke Sleepi comes in five different colours of timber to suit all manner of nursery styles, colours and decor (browse through our image gallery).
Features
The Stokke Sleepi standard kit comprises the full size cot on four lockable wheels with a base that can be mounted in two positions (up higher for small bubs, down low for when they begin to sit or pull themselves up).
Additional kits need to be purchased for the Stokke Mini Sleepi and Junior Bed, but you can make the cot, toddler bed and chairs out of the standard Sleepi kit.
Performance
Assembly and adjustments are easy with the only tools you need being the supplied umbraco key and a standard screwdriver.
For those of you, like our family, that are tight on space in the nursery, this is a great choice because not only is its footprint small, visually it's also very light and airy. While one of its drawbacks may be the lack of a drop down side, the Stokke Sleepi is only 86cm high which leaves you with plenty of wall space above creating an illusion of space that you lose with many of the larger, taller cots.
The oval shape prevents "mobile" sleepers (like my son) from being stuck in a corner. And while Stokke produce a great range of colour co-ordinated linen for the Sleepi, you are not locked in to always purchasing it, as normal-sized fitted cot sheets can easily fit over the oval mattress.
Drawbacks
The fact that the Sleepi does not have a drop-down side is viewed as a drawback by some, but a design feature by others. It will be a very personal decision as to whether a drop-down side is a necessary feature in your cot or not.
Conclusion
I love this cot, it's been perfect for our nursery and garnered many compliments from visitors to our house.
It is expensive, especially if you buy the additional kits, but you can often pick them up second-hand (although not at rock-bottom prices, they do retain a high re-sale value because they are so hardy and sought-after). We didn't bother with the mini kit, with the bed made up tight and a mobile or canopy draped over the top, we felt the standard sized cot was cozy enough for our baby. Babies really only use a bassinet-sized bed for a couple of months.
