The Stokke Tripp Trapp is 'the chair' of choice for many parents. One of the few wooden high chairs currently on the market.
Design
The Tripp Trapp is designed from a different perspective; to bring your baby to the table rather than be a stand alone unit. Apart from its wooden construction the most notable feature of the Tripp Trapp is its lack of any kind of food or snack tray.
It comes in many different colours including four new 'trend' colours. It is very well constructed from renewable timber and the base is sturdy and will not tip. All the components are well designed and made from quality materials.
Features
The Tripp Trapp features a fully adjustable seat and foot rest which grow with your baby. Each year you adjust the height and width of the seat and the height of the foot rest so that they support the natural posture of your baby.
The seat is wood and can be a little hard on a small soft botty so cushions are advisable.
Performance
The lack of any tray or fixture in front of the chair allows it to be bought right up to the dinner table so your baby can have their meal with the family and get a head start in the social skills department.
The depth and height adjustable seat means that your baby always has correct posture and the chair grows with them providing years of comfort at the dinner table. It is also designed so that toddlers can climb into the chair and seat themselves.
The simple lines of the chair make it easy to keep clean.
Drawbacks
This chair has no tray and this is a big drawback because not every meal is eaten in a formal dinning setting. There are many times when a parent just needs to pop their baby into a chair in the kitchen and give them something to munch on.
Like all nice quality European gear, you have to purchase every accessory in addition to the chair and they are expensive.
Wood needs to be cared for in order to keep it looking good. To remove and wash the seat you have to disassemble part of the chair which is fiddly. The new waterproof seats are good value, you can just wipe them down.
Conclusion
It is realistic that your baby will use this chair up until adolescence so it is truly one piece of baby gear that you will actually get years of use from.
Some clever Germans have overcome the lack of tray by designing and selling their own. The Click Clac is available in Europe and has just hit the UK market. Check out UK eBay if you are desperate for one.
