Design and Features
The ToasTee is a short sleeve wetsuit top. They are made from a thin Neoskin which is lightweight and stretchy. They feature a strong zip and pull on the back for ease of use and a little flap behind the zip for comfort.
They are well made and strong with all seams double stitched. The material is UPF 50+ which is as sun-proof as you can get.
They come in sizes 1 to 10 in Blueberry Jam, Coconut Ice, Hot Buttered and Strawberry Jam colours.
Performance and Drawbacks
It's a great idea to get your baby or toddler into swimming lessons as soon as possible but small children can’t maintain their body heat in water and get cold very quickly. That's when the ToasTee comes in handy.
Wetsuits work by trapping a layer of warm water next to the skin so the ToasTee is a nice snug fit. The body of the ToasTee is long which is great as they ride up a little when in action. The wetsuit material is thin so it doesn’t restrict baby paddling action.
The ToasTee can be used in all pools except thermal and are particularly well suited to outdoor use. As mentioned above, buying a size up to ‘grow into’ doesn’t work. ToasTees have a comprehensive size chart on their website.
Like any item of clothing you wear in salt water or chlorine it should be washed out after every use to keep it in good condition; no pegs, no washing machine, no tumble dryers.
Conclusion
You might be forgiven for thinking that a baby wetsuit is a bit of a gimmick but the little guy and I actually had to move pools for swimming lessons because he got too cold.
These baby wetsuits are great value considering they don’t cost much more than your average rashee.
To keep them reasonably priced ToasTees sell them directly from their website.
About Toastees
ToasTees are an Aussie company and the ToasTees wetsuit is a mum and dad designed product which was originally designed for their son (who I suspect is the swanky little guy striking the James Bond pose in the pic above).
